Theresa Ruth Howard's approach presents the building blocks of IDEA through the lens of the art form allowing participate to see exactly how and where institutional racism and implicit biases are silently embedded within it. Additionally she asserts that by identifying the antiquated traditions and structures believed to hold the art form and its standards that have resulted in a deleterious culture, and committing to their reform from the inside (the personal) out (organizational) we can shift the culture such that it is healthier and more inclusive organically.
