This collection of learning modules from the Cultural Competency and Equity Coalition Curriculum of Change is designed create an arc of learning for the entirity of your organization. Theresa Ruth Howard's approach presents the building blocks of IDEA through the lens of the art form allowing participate to see exactly how and where institutional racism and implicit biases are silently embedded within it. Additionally she asserts that by identifying the antiquated traditions and structures believed to hold the art form and its standards that have resulted in a deleterious culture, and committing to their reform from the inside (the personal) out (organizational) we can shift the culture such that it is healthier and more inclusive organically.
the Cultural Competency and Equity Coalition’s ThinkTank—a gathering of organizational leaders, presenters, curators, choreographers, and artists. Together, we will: Reflect on the demonstrated benefits of the arts sector’s commitment to IDEA over the past five years, Address the threats posed by its dismantling, Strategize ways to keep hard-won advancements alive, Navigate the shifting funding landscape, and Explore new models of collaboration to support the future creation and presentation of art. We will assess our current ecosystem and, with intention, design something stronger, more sustainable, and more equitable. Our work together can serve as a blueprint for a path forward. Sessions will be facilitated by Theresa Ruth Howard, with topics shaped by the needs and priorities of the cohort. This will be a space for thoughtful engagement, shared learning, and strategic action.
